Yes, today is the day. If you need the full breakdown of the contest check it out on the HP Freshman 15 page of the site. The basic breakdown is this: You have the opportunity to win an absurdly sweet package of over $1500 of tech (HP dv4t notebook, media drive, all-in-one printer, & more), I’m bitter that I can’t just steal it all, and my friends are pissed that I won’t let them enter.
But you already knew that. What you don’t know is how you enter this little giveaway. Some of the other blogs participating in this project have asked readers economics questions, requested tours of your dorm, financial secrets, and even spelling out the blogs’ name in french fries. What do these have in common? They all reflected the sites’ missions. So too will this one.
Student Bloggers was started with the hope of connecting the college blogger community and helping us better connect. So what do I want you to do? Help the community grow! (details after the jump)
Here’s how:
- Bring two new student bloggers into the fold by telling them about the site and emailing their URLs (or having them do it on your behalf). UPDATE: Try Google Blogsearch for this. There’s no need to get people to start new blogs for the contest.
- Represent your college experience with two photos of your college life to be used in post headers (you must have ownership of course)
- Join the SB Facebook group if you aren’t already a member (link to your right, my left). If you blog anonymously and wish to remain so, submit a screenshot proving that you’ve joined or give me your name with the assurance that it will not be revealed to anyone else.
- Finally, though not required, if you have any suggestions on how to make the site better, please include those as well*.
That’s it! Two new student blogs, two pictures of your college life, some Facebook love, and you get the chance to win mad geek toys.
There are NO geographical restrictions, so international student bloggers are in as well, but you must be a member of the directory to enter (Yes, only current college student bloggers). Also, for USAians, all taxes will be covered.
At the end of the giveaway (October 19th) I will randomly choose one entrant to win the package. One of that blogger’s photos will be used as the new site banner. Four runner-ups with especially sweet submission photos will receive HP messenger bags as well.
Leave any questions in the comments, but otherwise good luck! Full details and a review of the system are on the HP Freshman 15 Giveaway page.

Well it’s about time.
Think this whole thing is just a conspiracy? You’re not alone. Head over to Relatively Journalizing’s post from today (joshuadelung.blogspot.com) for the real scoop!
Looks like this will be the first HP laptop contest I will be sitting out. The second and third requirements are easy enough, but the first requirement is a bit harder. Starting a new blog requires a big commitment to maintain, and I’m not going to force it on my friends just for a chance to win a laptop. I guess I could just ask them to throw up a single page, but that seems like cheating. So, it looks like I’ll be sitting this one out.
Richard.
Richard.
I have joined the group over at facebook. Here’s my profile:

Question: I know that it’s geared towards college students (which I am), but what if we don’t live in a dorm? What if all our courses are taken on line? What then? I have joined the group on facebook, doest this count for one entry or is that even wasted since I don’t have pictures to share?
Just curious…
Good points/comments.
@Barbara – If you don’t actually go to campus for school, show what your college life is like (e.g., a desk covered with books, whatever).
@Richard – When SB started I went out and searched for college student bloggers. Google Blogsearch was a good friend. You definitely don’t have to get people to start a blog in order to enter. I found around 100. You just need 2.
Thanks Alex…I’ll do my best to figure out the best picture to capture my life as a student “at home”
Done, done, and done, I think. That took a good few hours, but I think I did everything you wanted (and correctly, I hope). Please let me know if there is anything else I need to do to make my entry valid. Thanks!
